BSC uses a unique Formula for marketing a business, going to great lengths to assure that your business is properly priced and confidentially presented to financially qualified Buyers. The proof is in the pudding: businesses that list with us are twice as likely to sell as the national average! There are 3 phases to our Formula: Preparation, Marketing, and Transition.

PHASE 1: PREPARATION

  • Valuation Plus™: We perform our own in-house valuation to determine an asking price for your business. We have developed a weighting system that combines seven different, small business valuation formulas. In an effort to provide a thorough review, we require an on-site examination and walk-through instead of just asking you to mail us your financials. We tailor each Valuation Plus™ to the business under review by assigning grades and appropriately weighting our formulas to accurately and effectively present a justification for our suggested sale price.

  • Express Blueprint™: We provide an overview of a business’ general industry, a profile of the company (History, Products, Operations, Customers, and Outlook), a Business Scoresheet (identifying strengths and areas to develop), and a Growth Strategy Table. These summaries give qualified Buyers a true picture of your business and its potential.

  • Vital Statistics: To complete the preparation phase, we ask for three full years (if applicable) of tax returns and profit and loss statements, as well as the most recent balance sheet and the current year’s P&L.

We combine the Valuation Plus™, Express Blueprint™, and Vital Statistics to create our Marketing Portfolio. The Portfolio is unique among Kansas City business brokerages and representative of the extra care and service we provide our Sellers. After a rigorous qualification process, Buyers can gain access to Portfolios, which give them a head start on due diligence and an opportunity to show serious interest in your business.

PHASE 2: MARKETING

  • Buyer Database: We maintain a database of hundreds of qualified Buyers whose business interests we record and track. When we list a new business that may be of interest, we notify them as quickly as possible. We use our Business E-lert system to send automatic notification via e-mail and then search our database to identify Buyers who would benefit from additional contact.

  • Media: Our primary marketing media are newspapers and the Internet. We use the Kansas City Star and, when appropriate, regional papers such as the Sun-Times for our print ads. Additionally, we post our businesses listed for sale on as many as 10 websites, depending on the type of business.

  • Corporate Buyer Searches: Depending on the wishes of the Seller, industry, and business size, we may confidentially market the business as a strategic merger or acquisition opportunity for another company.

  • Referrals: Our owners and staff are members of numerous area organizations and have long been members of the Kansas City community. We are skilled at the confidential identification of Buyers.

This marketing typically generates interest from several serious Buyers. When it becomes appropriate, we help the Buyer move towards making an offer on the business.

PHASE 3: TRANSITION

We are closely involved in the closing and transition processes, overseeing and advising a number of essential procedures:

  • Submission of Letter of Intent to Purchase
  • Negotiation
  • On-site visit(s)
  • Facilitation of due diligence
  • Packaging for financing
  • Formal document preparation, including Offer to Purchase and all closing documents
  • Transition planning, including Buyer training
